Growing up, I always thought I was healthy. We made most of our meals from scratch and my mom never allowed Tuna Helper in the kitchen. We ate our veggies and fruits... drank our full of dairy for "calcium", but we also enjoyed lots of ice cream and cookies. I never had a weight problem and was a very active person (swimming, riding horses & more), but I remember clearly making a decision to stop drinking soda after I joined the high school swim team because I wanted to be healthy. That planted a seed that obviously blossomed later on...
My interest in truly healthy, wholesome food begin when I was first pregnant with Naomi. My interest began innocently with High Fructose Corn Syrup and Hydrogenated Oils, then it snowballed into an avalanche of many other things. Like many mothers, I desired the best for my growing babies and that started the hard, long process of re-learning what a nourishing, healthy lifestyle really looks like. I was very "healthy" according to the American standards, but I had to re-define what the term "healthy" really meant.
My first book of wholesome education was "The Maker's Diet" By Jordan Rubin and from there I learned about the book, "Nourishing Traditions" By Sally Fallon. Now, 3 years later... I haven't looked back once. I've learned (and still learning!) how to incorporate Nourishing Tradition's way of preparing food into our life and enjoying the benefits of a wholesome diet. We enjoyed discovering that healthy food does taste delicious, as well as being so good for us!
Come, learn along with me as I share information, recipes and my life here at Just Making Noise! I pray that you will be encouraged, educated and edified as you come and go.
Many blessings!

GOD BLESS YOU!
Hi, nice to 'meet' you. We share the same passions, exept for the first one you mention and I'd like to add homeschooling
Beautiful! I'm sold! After reading your list, I see right now that there's 2 people that I want to be like when I grow up: Christ (first and foremost!) and YOU Momma! LOL I've got most of that list down (surprisingly!) but I could definitely work on missions, gardening, loose leaf teas, and homebirthing (my babies seem to get stuck ;-( )I'll be back to learn more about nourishing traditions...I'm so intrigued! I love it! I'm Kendra BTW!
StillMe842 / Kendra - Great to meet you! Thank you for stopping by :o) Thanks for your sweet comments. I hope to see you more often!

Sadia - So glad you found me!! Always great to meet another like myself. Checking out your blog right now. Thanks!
I am so happy to have found your blog. I have toddler twin boys and want to do better about feeding them healthy foods. I grew up struggling with bulimia and anorexia so I don't feel like I am the most 'normal' eater. I want to help instill healthy eating habits in my boys as well as let my body heal from the abuse I inflicted. I am so happy to see that you love Jesus, too.

Sarah
p.s. I am also trying to learn to avoid dairy due to asthma so I like your coconut kefir recipe and am excited to try it.
Hi! I came to your blog through a Soaked and Ready Oats link... and I'm so glad I found you... looks like we have a lot in common and I look forward to reading more of your posts.
I just stumbled upon your blog, and in reading your 'about me' section, I find our lives eerily similar! Everything from your 'food' upbringing to horseback riding, swimteam, choosing to cut out soda, my first 'traditional health' book was Maker's diet which led to Nourishing Traditions which was prompted by being concerned about what HFCS was.... It's just kinda cool! Anyway, I look forward to reading more.
Peace be with you and yours :)

My husband is deaf, and we are traveling in New Zealand right now. I love to see that you and your family are in Central America! Is your husband deaf as well? How do you find the differences between ASL and sign in Honduras?
Great to connect with you!
